Think of Cyprus and you think of endless blue skies and unbroken summer sunshine.  It is certainly like that for many months of the year, but there are other seasons too, and each has its own special charm.  During the four summer months, there is an average of eleven and a half hours of sunshine each day, and in the cloudiest winter months there is an average of five and a half hours per day. To help you to decide which time of the year you would enjoy most, and what kind of clothing to bring with you, the following is an outline of the weather you can expect month by month.

July is the hottest month of the year, with temperatures constantly in the high 30s and often in the low 40s.  However, Farrago is situated 2000ft above sea level, so the humidity which can be unbearable on the coast  is considerably lower up here.  August is very similar to July, with temperatures still in the high 30s; not the weather for serious walking in open areas, but strolling in the forest can be very peaceful and cooling.

By September, the worst of the heat has eased off.  It is still very warm and sunny but the air is much clearer, and  there is the possibility of an odd shower or two.  We can expect more regular rain in October and November, but even into December a gentle autumn still lingers, with temperatures usually in the mid 20s.

January and February are the real winter months, with temperatures up here dipping to around 10C, lots of wind and rain, and maybe the odd day of snow in January.  But the serious walkers and golfers will find plenty of opportunity to get out and about.  There is still plenty of sunshine, and one year we had a heat wave in February, but it has to be said that this is rare!

Spring in Cyprus arrives in March.  Although there are still prolonged periods of rain and wind, the sunny spells are starting to lengthen out and the temperatures begin to rise.

It is at this time that the wonderful wild flowers, that are so abundant in this area, make an appearance.  By April it is beginning to get quite warm, and the showers largely die out in May.  All the flowers, and the arrival of many summer visitor birds, make this time of year in Cyprus a photographer's paradise.  The temperatures continue to rise and by June the summer is well under way.
