THE AREA
Fyti is a small stone village, situated in the lower
hills of the Troodos range, and close to the Pafos
forest. The views all around the village are
spectacular, stretching from the sea in the north
around the Akamas peninsula, around the mountain
range and including Mount Olympos, the new dam at
Kannaviou, the sea in the south around Pafos, and
all the lovely valleys and countryside round about.
Although the village is in a most rural location, it
is only around 40 minutes drive down to the busy
town of Pafos, with its shops, supermarkets and
banks. However, the village of Polemi, only a 10
minute drive away, has 2 banks, and 2 mini markets
which sell most things. The town of Polis on the
north coast is about 20 minutes drive away, from
where the road west leads to Latsi, the Baths of
Aphrodite, and the Akamas, with its many nature
trails. The road east leads to the fishing village
of Pomos and on to the border with the occupied area
at Kato Pyrgos.
The village has a lovely church and 2 excellent
tavernas. It is noted for its production of
so-called "lace" but actually linen embroidered with
folk designs. There is a small museum dedicated to
this art. In some of the narrow streets, women can
be seen winding their threads around pegs on the
house walls.
The international airport at Pafos is about 50
minutes away and the airport at Larnaca is a further
hour away.
THE HOUSE
This beautiful stone village house is located
outside the village a little way, approached by a
country lane, and surrounded by lovely open fields,
with amazing views in several directions, including
one of the sea on the north coast. The house has
been lovingly restored by the present owners and
retains many of its original features. It is built
of stone, under a pitched tiled roof, and has wooden
doors and some shutters, all of these being in
keeping with the old style. The sympathetic
restoration has included leaving some exposed
stonework inside the house, and retaining the
traditional style of ceiling. The thickness of the
stone walls has allowed for two window seats to be
included, and the living room is warmed by a
free-standing cast iron wood-burning stove.
Around the house is a substantial and very lovely
garden, with many mature fruit trees and shrubs,
gravelled areas, and crazy paving. The aspect from
the garden is of the surrounding countryside.
