THE AREA
Anogyra is located on the elevated open countryside area,
about 12 kilometres inland from the bay of Akrotiri, and
around 30 minutes drive from both Pafos and Limassol. This
lovely village has attracted a great deal of investment in
recent years, and many of the old stone properties have been
restored to a very high standard. In addition to these very
attractive residential properties, Anogyra boasts a few
small shops, an old church, and several excellent tavernas,
two of them with swimming pools. In addition, a carob museum
has recently opened in the village, in an old restored
property, and a few kilometres outside the village is a
further museum and small theme park, which is dedicated to
the history of the olive industry, and the production of
olive oil.
Limassol is the nearest large town, with its many excellent
shops, its supermarkets, its Turkish quarter, and its old
castle and harbour, and is about 20 minutes drive away,
along the main Pafos/Limassol/Nicosia highway, which is only
10 kilometres from the village. Beyond Limassol, about
another 30 minutes drive away, is the main international
airport at Larnaca, while Pafos airport is around 25 minutes
from the village, along the beautiful coastline that passes
Petra tou Romiou, where legend has it that Aphrodite first
rose from the sea. The road inland from the village leads
through extensive wine-producing country to the mountain
range of Troodos and Mount Olympus, and all the lovely
unspoilt mountain villages that are scattered on the
hillsides.
THE HOUSE
This beautiful stone village house has been lovingly
restored to provide spacious 4 bedroom accommodation, with
peaceful and secluded courtyards outside. Many original
features have been retained, and yet the house offers every
possible modern convenience. There are beamed and boarded
ceilings throughout, several old stone features such as
water-cooling niches, and the 2 magnificent stone arches
that span the large living area. The house benefits from
oil-fired central heating, as well as having an open stone
fireplace to the living room. Several fly screens have been
fitted to essential windows, and all windows and patio doors
are double-glazed.
